Durga puja had 6 months left. Suddenly a plan was to organized returned from an office that is tour for Andaman. The next day the ticket booked. After booking the flight ticket our main concern about a well-known tour operator who was organized the whole tor. A few day over we got a tour operator.Our countdown started, after the summer, spring. our tour was started in mid monsoon. The beginning of the journey we got few problems like the time of the flight had been changed so we were waiting for 3 hours.
Our tour was in the monsoon that’s why while the flight was landing at port Blair started raining.
Port Blair is the only Airport in Andaman. It is the biggest city in Andaman. It is one of the cleanest cities. I suggest if you get a chance to travel Andaman, never miss it.
Our hotel was 20 mints apart from port Blair airport. As per our tour plan 1st day, We will visit Rajiv Gandhi sports complex, light of cellular jail and sound show. After having lunch we visited one by one.
1st we visited the Rajiv Gandhi sports complex. Must visit place for peace lovers and people who are looking for water activities. I am traveling with my family members and enjoy the trip. A huge area is covered; water skiing is the main attraction of that place. . This complex is close to where ferries are available to go to Ross Island. The complex has a statue of Rajiv Gandhi which needs immediate maintenance. Overall an interesting place to visit. We got pleasant weather. Our next destination was cellular jail.
To cover the whole place of cellular jail you can get 3-4 hours. During this show, various artists enact the life of prisoners when Cellular Jail was operational. The light and sound show takes place both in Hindi and English. It’s a must-watch show in the Andaman and is pretty good. It’s a 1hour show. , one of the best sow in my life. It’s a storytelling show about the history of cellular jail. During the show, video recording is prohibited.
Timing of Light and Sound Show, Hindi show starts from 6:00 pm to 7:15 pm on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. The English show starts at 7:15 pm. Jail Museum opens from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon, and from 1:30 pm to 4:45 pm. Close on Mondays.
Due to the rainy season the rain was repeatedly occurring, when we came from the show due to rain we late for reached the hotel. In our package, the food was not included so we were searching a hotel for dinner. Many options have been available but it’s pricey.
Our next day plan was exploring port Blair. After breakfast, we went for our next destination but because of rain we were getting late but after some time rain stopped, we went “Samadrulia” Ocean museum.
This place should be visited before going Havelock n Neil as this will tell you full details of places where to visit in those islands. It also tells you about fish species shells, tribes, etc. Samudrika Naval Marine Museum is located in Port Blair and is a well-known tourist attraction in the Andaman Islands.
This place is also known as the Fisheries Museum. It has more collection and info about Corals, seashells, tribes of Andaman than Naval activities. This place has a wide range of installations which cover islands’ ecosystem, plants, animals, history, local tribal communities, and marine life.. On the outside just near the main entrance, they have a huge skeleton of a blue whale that was washed ashore on the Nicobars.
The Samudrika Naval Marine Museum is run by the Indian Navy and it has 5 rooms or galleries dotted which showcases the geography, anthropology and marine life of the Island. The main hall has a giant screen for showing the video of ecosystem of Andaman, we spent 1 hour at that place.
Our next place to visit it’s an Zonal Anthropological Museum, photography is prohibited at this place so that we cloud not carry the camera but we give details information about it.
The lifestyles of the inhabitants of Andaman are displayed vividly through models and photographs. Good to watch. The Sales counter offers various items for collection. This place gives a good insight into human evolution.. The museum has 2 floors and all its exhibits are mostly in glassed showcases. The museum is open from 9 am to 1 pm and 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm and is closed on Mondays. The entry charge is only ten rupees. If you want to know about the Andaman then you must have a visit to that place.
The main attraction of our tour was “Cellular Jail” which was the 2nd last place to visit that day.
A place soaked in history was transported in time…
This is 1st time in my life visited the jail. The cellular jail is connected with Indian history. The 7 pillars were in jail but now it is 3 pillars. The ground floor of this jail is an art gallery and Netaji gallery. 1st building has 2 floors of art gallery; the momentum of cellular jail is put into a few steps from here. The main portion of the jail is in the front. the stairs are very old so aged people are pleased to avoid it. The name of the freedom fighters’ list is hanging on the wall of the jail. I like the Netaji Art gallery in this jail. This time though it was somewhat different. The jail premises is under renovation. The cell which hosted “Svatantryaveer V.D. Savarkar” is also under renovation and hence they have moved all its contents. Also, there were so many people flocking around that all the serenity of the place was completely lost. The light and show in the gallows room which is beside the gallery. In the gallows room, freedom fighters were hang by the neck. we covered the whole place by the 3.5 hours.
Our next destination fisheries museum The museum was closed due to the lunch break after having the lunch we visited at this place. In the museum describes the various types of sea animals, coral octopus, and fish. The place is about ocean life and coral, this place is also banned the clicking photo. All over this place, it is very nice.
Carbyn’s : The sporty beach
This is the next and last destination of that day. Corbyn’s Cove beach is probably the only beach in main Port Blair island.
If you love adventures must visit it. It takes hardly one hour to enjoy at this beach. The beach is good for sports activities like a speed boat, jet skis, etc. The best sport is jet skis which is like a bike that runs on the waves. The cost of a jet ski is 550. King coconut is famous for this place.
It is about 5-6 kilometers travel from Port Blair city. There is also a small shopping area. Andaman is a major honeymoon destination for Indians and this place as any other beach is buzzing with young newlyweds during the wedding season. So worth choosing the time of the year accordingly. We could not cover the whole beach because of the storm and rain. But all over the beach, it is very fun.
