I hope our 1st day trip of Mursidabad Sightscene was good to you all. Now today I want to share our day 2 travel story.

On the start of Day 2 We went to other side of “Bhagirathi” river. We crossed the river by a Small boat. Here the main funny thing is that the auto toto and even small sumo cars cross the river with the help of these small boats.. There the first place that we visited was “Khoshbag”. Khushbagh (also spelled as Khoshbagh), meaning Garden of Happiness is the garden cemetery of the family of the Nawabs of Bengal. It lies on the west bank of the Bhagirathi River, about one mile from the east bank. It is also reputed to be the resting place of Nawab Siraj ud-Daulah, along with his wife Lutf-un-nisa, Nawab Alivardi Khan, Alivardi Khan’s mother and others.

Khoshbag Histroy :
The garden was built by the first Nawab of Bengal, Nawab Alivardi Khan. The garden consists of walled enclosures. The outer walls had looped holes for musketry and used to be flanked by octagonal bastions.The garden hosts the graves. The graves of Siraj ud-Daulah and Alivardi Khan are inside a square, flat-roofed mausoleum surrounded by an arcade verandah. The garden also hosts a mosque, built by Nawab Alivardi Khan, on the lines of the Jama Masjid of Delhi. It was built on a plinth of 2,675 square feet area.

After the death of Nawab Siraj ud-Daulah in the Battle of Plassey in 1757, his wife Lutf-un-nisa refused to join Mir Jafar’s harem and fled to Dacca (present day Dhaka, in Bangladesh). She later returned to Murshidabad. It is said that Lutf-un-nisa lived in Khushbagh, where she tended the grave and the 108 varieties of roses, which once used to grow the gardens, for several years. It is also said that she spent 1000 for the maintenance of Khushbagh and after her death in 1786 AD she was buried near the grave of Siraj-ud-Daulah, her husband.

The entire cemetery, along with the graves, is built on a 7.65 acres land and is surrounded by a 2,741 feet long wall.

After spending a quality time there we went to our next destination which is very old but very famous and the name is “Kiritir swari” temple.

Kiriteswari Temple is situated in Kiritkona village under the Nabagram (community development block) in Murshidabad district in the state of West Bengal. This is one of the Sati peeth among the 51 peeths. We gave puja there worshipped goddess.. And the idol of goddess kali is really good.

Kiriteswari Temple History :
According to the Puranas or Hindu mythology the place were named as Kiriteswari. Peeth devi name is devi Vimala and Bhairab is Samvarta. The construction of the temple is more than 1000 years old and this place was considered to be the sleeping place of Mahamaya. Local people call this temple as Mahishamardini. Devi is also worshipped as Mukuteshwari (as her mukut or crown fell) the Holy Goddess. The original Temple was destroyed in 1405. The present temple was re-constructed by Darpanarayan, king of Lalgola in the 19th century and this is the oldest mark of architecture amongst 51 Peethas. It is the oldest temple in the Murshidabad district. There is a myth that Nawab Mir Jafar in his death bed had requested for the holy Charanamrito (the holy water) of Maa Kiriteswari while suffering from leprosy.

Raja Darponarayan renovated this place. Local rumor, Nabab Mirjafor came here in his last age for Leprosy disease ? Half destroyed main Temple here to be seen also ? Two temple there on each other ? Transportation not available carry personal vessel. Surprise thing are last option Toto’s are week area oxygen. Natural airy peaceful large open area. Hotels & Resturent dose not exit. Can visit for picnic.

The side view of Kiritiswari temple is a beauty. Many old temple are not maintenance like earlier. After coming to Mursidabad u can well understand that how good was old Bengal.

After returning from Kiritirswari temple we next moved to “Jahatbandhu Dham”. Taking a huge place there is a Vaisnav temple.

It is the birth place of Probhu Jogannath Sundar, a Vaisnav saint of Bengal.This is situated on the bank of rivar Bhagirathi.One of the best tourist spot of Murshidabad. There is holy pond named Bandhu Kunda. A religious festival is held in the month of Baisakh on Sita Navami. The temple is very beautiful.

International tourist are mainly from Bangladesh. Prasad serve day & night only, booked in advance Week transportation, Toto’s are area oxygen. Icchaganj ferighat & Railways near to Temple. Guest house are there in temple area. Shop & parking available.

After returning from Jagatbandhu dham and spending some quality time in the complex we went to our next destination.

Tomb of Sujauddin :

Tomb of Sujauddin is a popular historical place, situated in the array of river Bhagirathi in Murshidabad of West Bengal. It is popularly termed as ‘Sujauddin’s Mosque’ or ‘Garden of Joy’. In accordance with the inscription of the tomb, it was created by Nawab Sujauddin during the period of 1727 AD to 1739 AD. It is possibly one of the earliest monuments in Murshidabad.

Historical Importance :
Tomb of Sujauddin is an 18th century construction. According to history, apart from Sujauddin, his wife Lutffannesha, his mother Nawab Ali Vardi Khan and other members of Sujauddin’s family were also buried in Tomb of Sujauddin. It was said that after demise of Sujauddin, his wife became the concierge of the graveyard. Tomb of Sujauddin contains a well-arranged garden, and similar to other tombs of popular Muslim rulers of India, the tomb of Sujauddin resides at the centre position of the garden. The real gravestone of Sujauddin is pretty unadorned.

The mosque which resides within Tomb of Sujauddin was created by Mahabat Jang in the year 1743 AD. Since he was the ruler during the period of 1740 to 1756, it can be assumed that the mosque has been constructed after four years of demise of Sujauddin.

Tourism Importance :
Tomb of Sujauddin is a great place for tourism. Travellers can enjoy the pleasant view of the monument along with various attractive structures. People who are highly interested in the subject of history and archaeology can find Tomb of Sujauddin quite interesting. Furthermore, Tomb of Sujauddin is also a good place to visit for experience pursuers and for wanderlust people.

Within a few miles from the tomb of Suja udiin kha there is a tomb of pir baba.. After visiting these two places we went to our next destination ..
And for that again we had to cross “Bhagirathi” river. After crossing Bhagirathi river again we came Hazarduari. Now our destination was “Moti jheel Mosque”

History lies at Motijheel :it covers a huge place you can a get a good 360 view from a pond which is located there. From the local guide we came to know many things about the history there.

Motijheel facts :
Motijheel was the home of Meherunnesa, history known her as Ghoseti Begum, one of the masterminds of Siraj killing conspiracy. A mosque and a palace were there, though the palace has been destroyed but the mosque is still there. This Motijheel is a man made pond. During the reign of Nawab Alibardi Khan, lots of building was constructed and for that bricks were needed and so this dighi/pond was excavated. Now Govt. of West Bengal has fabricate a beautiful garden named Motijheel Park, Prakriti Tirtha, around this and lots of amusement including a light & sound show to take you back in history of Murshidabad, has been set up for it’s visitors. Best time to visit this place is from October to February. You can spent the whole day with your family & kids. There are battery operated cars for senior citizens and physically challenged persons as well.

After coming from Motijheel mosque we came again to our hotel..

Afternoon:
As our hotel was in front of Hazarduari for that reason we visited the front place…

All over Mursidabad trip weekend, winter. For Puja it’s a good place from Kolkata. Must visit once the historical city of West Bengal..

Tips :- You should stay in front of Hazarduari for better locations. Always 1st half of the sight scene in Murshudabad except Hazarduari is good to travel. Because you cannot cover the whole area..
