The Unknown and Beautiful lakes of Nainital

The Unknown and Beautiful lakes of Nainital

Nainital being a lake district has several lakes. Some are well known but others unknown. We visited that place on puja 2011.

Sattal :-

Sattal or Sat Tal (Hindi for “seven lakes”) is an interconnected group of seven freshwater lakes situated in the Lower Himalayan Range near Bhimtal, a town of the Nainital district in Uttarakhand, India. During the British Raj, the area had a tea plantation, one of four in the Kumaon area at that time. The lakes sit at an altitude of 1370 metres below lush orchards in the Mehragaon valley.

Set amongst dense forests of oak and pine trees, Sattal is one of the few unspoiled and unpolluted freshwater biomes in India. These lakes are a paradise for migratory birds. It is home to a few camps being operated mostly by local people catering to tourists looking for outdoor vacations.

“Take only memories, leave only footprints.”

Bhimtal Lake is a lake in the town of Bhimtal, Uttarakhand, India. There is an island at the centre of the lake. It is the largest lake in the only real lake district of India. It is a perennial lake which not only supports a large variety of aquatic life but is a winter stopover for Trans Himalayan birds.

Naukuchia Tal:-

The environment of Naukuchia Tal is an old man’s good old days, its beauty is a poet’s thought, a travelers odyssey, and an avid city dweller’s peace of mind.Naukuchiatal is a complete destination in truest sense of words. Plan an unforgettable trip to Naukuchia Tal with your loved ones at any time of the year.

Naukuchiatal literally suggests a nine-cornered Lake, perched at an elevation of 1,220mts above sea level in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand state. The length of the lake is approximately 1km and it has depth of around 40mts. It is the deepest lake in the greater area. According to myths and some stories, if one takes a glimpse of all the nine corners at once with foots on earth, one can disappear in a cloud of smoke to attain nirvana, which means that it is impossible to look at all nine corners of the lake at once with your foots on the ground. Naukuchiatal is situated in an enchanting valley providing ample scope for rowing, paddling and yatching.
