“An Island with a Temple”

Uma-nanda is a Shiva and Parvati temple located at the Peacock Island in the middle of river Brahmaputra. There is nothing more without temple in Guwahati. So without Kamakhya we loved this temple for locations. Umananda temple is the most hidden beauty of Assam.

We visited this place during our Shillong trip on 2014.
It was an unexpected location as we did not plan for it but this place was awesome.
I have never seen a temple in an island before.Place of Guwahati not only for temple also sightseeing. The atmosphere in both the temple and the island that takes you there is really interesting.its also known as Urvasi island.its a combo ride for travelers..

An interesting location and an enjoyable one too as you have to approach it only after a 20 min motorboat ride. You may have to negotiate the prices with the boatmen a bit stiffly but the temple and the location is really nice.

Only way to reach at the top is by using staircases.Shops are there for prasad and snacks.“A mind blowing experience”. This temple is situated in the peacock island and it is one of the main tourist attraction in the city after Kamakhya temple. You have to climb about 100 steps to approach the site which presents you with a nice view of the surrounding area. Here we visited Mahakal temple. This Temple is almost 400 years old.

The temple itself just another one of the thousands that we find in India. BUT the journey across the Brahmaputra.

How to reach:-

North Guwahati by ferries and steamers. One can hire a ferry from Sukleshwar ghat or Fancy BazarGhat.

Some more info:-
A. The cab drivers will always pressurize you to go for private ferries.Never go.They charge exorbitantly while you can do the same journey by govt. ferry at Rs 10 pr head and in a much safer way.
B. Please remember that the last ferry leaves Guwahati at 4:00 pm and comes back at 4:40 so reach well before.
